Hayes Goes Wire To Wire, Wins Southwest Nationals

Sheriff's Deputy, devoted family man and gunsmith, Phil Hayes now can add the crown of two time Champion to an already full hat rack. Phil's match winning 2248-79X put him well ahead of fellow match rifle shooter Steven Powell's 2234-67X and even further out in front of third in the Match Rifle Division, and 2009 winner, Harry Harrison. Harry put up a respectable 2223-77X despite some ammo issues.

The Service Rifle Division was no where near as close as Justin Skaret walked away from the pack with a noteworthy 2241-67X. Distant runner up Eric Swearingen, who posted a disappointing 476-13X in the National Match course today grabbed the Silver with a 2205-54X. Marine Reservist Ron Fuchs found himself in third place with a 2201-59X.

All in all I know everyone had a great time at this years match. The smiles were plenty and the talk of returning next year permeated the numerous conversations. Many thousand's of bullets were given away, Sierra donated 2500 and Berger was probably double that. The prize table alone was well worth $7,000.00 or more! Sure as the sun comes up we will see even more folks out for next years Championship.

Thanks for following this match and I have some photos of the final day here
